CLL and armpit lymph node

I am 79 years old and was diagnosed in November 2024 with CLL and have been under "watch and wait" for the passed two consultations. I have had slightly enlarged lymph nodes under my left armpit and right side of neck. The armpit node seems to alter in size from quite small to quite large. It seems larger in the morning when I wake up and then decreases though the day. Is this normal?

  • Hello and thank you for positing,

I am sorry to learn of your recent diagnosis. This must be a difficult time.

If you are concerned, it may be helpful to discuss this with your team at the hospital as they know your situation. I don't know if you have a nurse specialist (CNS) you can contact, you may need to leave a message but they will get back to you.

Lymph nodes can change in size, in response to the body's ongoing process of fighting infection. However, not being involved in your care we cannot say if this is the cause for your situation.

I hope you can get some answers soon. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any questions. If you would like to speak with one of the nurses on the helpline we are available Monday to Friday 9 am until 5pm and the number to call is 0808 800 4040

    Jemma

  • Thank you Jemma. I am feeling as fit as a fiddle apart from the node enlarging. I have spoken to my CN and she has asked me to get a blood test. I have a further consultation on 16th May so I will know more then. The node doesn't hurt much and moves around.
