I’ve noticed a mole sticking out on my back

So I’ve been referred to a dermatologist clinic for Saturday as I noticed a mole on my back was sticking out more than usually I know I’ve had it there from 18 I noticed it I’m 28 now I have lots of moles over my body and a lot of sun exposure on my back. Another thing that is worrying me is around 8 months ago I went to the doctors I had pain in my upper back where my spine area is and it feels like it’s a trapped nerve almost and it’s worrying me now that something isn’t right my big toe hurts for a long time to walk on it I’ve lost weight and it’s just worrying me I know I shouldn’t do too much searching because I will give myself anxiety. I see them this Saturday so I’m hoping they can see what the problem is and I hope it isn’t anything serious. Has anyone had similar experience with this?

  • HI Aliceshrop,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about the worry this is causing you. You are doing the right thing by not doing too much searching. You won't know what you are dealing with until you see the Dermatologist on Saturday, so you will only end up increasing your anxiety. If your Dermatologist suspects anything untoward, you will be given a biopsy. This will determine whether or not the lesion is cancerous.

My hubby had a lesion on his back for many years. He had shown this to his GP on at least 5 occasions over the years and was advised that there was nothing sinister present. We moved house last year and  moved to a different medical practice. The new GP referred him to get this investigated at hospital, where he had it removed. We were later told that this was a Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Thankfully, he has had no further problems with this to date.

I sincerely hope that you find that this is nothing serious, but it wouldn't do any harm to get the Dermatologist to check on all of your other moles when you are there.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello Aliceshrop and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern. This must be very difficult.

As Jolamine has said if the doctor is unsure or is concerned they will do a biopsy to confirm what the mole is. Unfortunately, until then no one can say whether the mole is something to be concerned about until you have your appointment.

Waiting for appointments or tests and test results can be stressful and cause anxiety. It is a time where people can feel they are not in control. I hope you have family and friends you can lean on at this time.

If you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline we are available Monday to Friday 9am -5pm and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
