Delay in my appointment

I had surgery on 7 March for stage 2 lobular breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removed. I'm recovering well but my appointment with the consultant on 9 April was cancelled by phone the day before as they had not received the results of the tissue samples taken during the surgery. I haven't heard anything since. I was told at the original appointments that I would have radiotherapy following the surgery. Do I need to be worried about the delay? I was feeling well but now I'm feeling stressed and in limbo. Thanks.

  • Hi there Mairexx and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery and the delay you have had in getting the results back.

If you haven't already I would suggest speaking with the breast unit or the consultants secretary by calling the hospital to chase this up.

Unfortunately results can be delayed and whilst I understand this can be unsettling, it shouldn't affect your situation or delay the radiotherapy treatment you need to have.

Try and contact the breast unit today and see what they have to say failing that the secretary of the consultant through the main switchboard should be able to help.

I hope you know more soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I have now had my appointment at the hospital and all's well. I'm starting the next stage of treatment.

It's reassuring to know that help is there if I feel a bit list.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Maire,

I am sorry to hear that you had such a long wait for your post-surgical results, but I am delighted to hear that all is well and that you are now ready to move on to the next stage of treatment. Have you been given a date for starting radiotherapy yet? As our moderator, Naomi has said, you don't need to worry about the delay in starting radiotherapy. Your surgeon will want the area to be completely healed before radiotherapy starts.

This forum is a great source of help, advice and support, as you travel your cancer journey. I can personally testify to that, having had 2 bouts of breast cancer. That was all 15 years ago now and I still lead a busy life.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
