Am I at increased risk of cancer after having cervical cancer over 10 years ago? How will it affect me getting insurance for a house?

Am I at increased risk of cancer after being diagnosed and treated for cervical cancer aged 23? I am 34 years old now and am buying my first house alone.

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you were diagnosed with cervical cancer in the past and appreciate the concerns you have now with buying a house of your own.

It is difficult for us without being involved in your situation whether you have a greater risk of developing a different cancer to the average person and this is something you could ask your own doctor about. As I am sure you will appreciate there are so many different risk factors that affects a person's risk of developing cancer. Even if people have a risk or a number of risk factors it doesn't necessarily mean they will definitely go on to develop a cancer, because many won't.

Whilst having previously being treated for cervical cancer may put you at an increased risk of cervical cancer it also depends on the type, stage and treatment you had.

I am sorry we can't be of more help on this occasion.

If you would like to call us to talk this through more then please do so. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes
