So I’m having my testicle removed in the morning…

So what started as a small tender lump on my testicle quickly resulting in a tumor diagnosis with immediate removal required all within 2 weeks! Not sure if I should be happy or worried either way, at the speed that all this has unfolded. I’m told once they remove, it will take 2 weeks to find out the stage and severity. So far the only tests I have received is one ultrasound on testicle and one blood test, should I expect to have had a ct or MRI to see if it’s spread already? Will I even receive one?

  • Hi Callum87 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate what a difficult time this must be for you.

Finding out you have cancer can conjure up a whole range of emotions and sometimes the speed of the process does not allow you time to process them.

After your tumour has been removed, the histopathologist will perform a biopsy. When treatment is planned, several factors are taken into account, such as what type of testicular cancer and the stage of the cancer (its size and how far it has spread).   If it is stage 1, then staging scans may not be necessary as it is deemed highly unlikely that the cancer has spread.

I can appreciate there is a lot of uncertainty for you. I hope your operation goes well and you know more about your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
