Two week pathway

Hello

My dad was referred to a Urologist via the 2 week pathway. Unfortunately he was not well enough to attend the appointments and has subsequently been removed from the process. His symptoms of problems urinating have now been added to by loss of appetite in the last 4 weeks. I have spoken to the hospital who tell me he has to go back to GP for re referral. I am concerned that the delay may mean that the cancer has spread to his liver as I read that loss of appetite is a sign it has spread. He is struggling mentally with the worry. I don’t know what to do for the best. He lives alone and is a 2 hour journey away from me. HELP!!!

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to hear about how unwell Dad is feeling.

Do get back in touch with Dad's surgery and explain he needs another appointment to be arranged, as he was too unwell to attend the hospital.

It is incredibly difficult when loved ones live away and are unwell. It may be that you and Dad decide you want to sort out a power of attorney to help in these sorts of situations. Although you are not living close by, you can be his advocate in talking to the Doctor when he feels he is unable.

I hope you are able to sort this situation out for him soon.

Take care, and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses the number is freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
