Pain and swelling in breast after GP assessment

Hello..I’m 36 and found a lump in my breast last week. I’ve had associated pain (burning) under the lump (lump isn’t sore), so went to get it checked. 1st questions what are the wait times for an ultrasound and 2, is it normal to wake the next day with pain. My GP checked my breast, did not push too hard or anything like that, but I’ve woken with pain almost everywhere in my left breast. Even under my arm pit. It’s also swollen. Is this normal?

  • Hi Ashmac24 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern.

I must also apologise, as I cannot be sure of the possible cause of your breast pain, whether it is a response to the examination conducted by your general practitioner or due to another factor.

We would always recommend that you consult your GP if you notice any new or worsening symptoms.

Additionally, I am unable to provide an estimate for the duration of the wait for an ultrasound scan, as this will be dependent upon the urgency indicated by your GP on the referral form, whether it is classified as urgent or routine.

You could always ask your GP or call the hospital Ultrasound Department to enquire about waiting times.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards
