Tests

I have just been given an urgent referral for suspected gynaecological cancer. I have blood tests tomorrow and then a CT scan to follow. I feel a bit bewildered as my doctor did t explain that this was what they were thinking - I read my notes on the NHS app.

  • Hello KizzzyA and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you have been referred urgently for further tests on the suspected cancer pathway and that you had not been told this was happening.

I'm not sure if you can contact the GP who made the referral to ask for an explanation.

It is important to know that most people who are referred urgently for a suspected cancer do not have cancer, but it may be something that needs to be ruled out. It does mean that you will have your tests done more quickly than if you are referred as a routine appointment. It also means that if cancer is found, then it can be treated early.

Waiting for tests and test results can be a stressful and anxious time, but I hope you do not have to wait too long to get more answers.

If you have any questions or would like to speak with one of our nurses we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
