Cancer diagnosis no option on treatment

Diagnosis today. Early stage not spread cancer. Hospital only offering one option major surgery as they don’t do the endoscopic options. Say I may be able to be referred to other hospital that does endoscopic options but I’m worried about delays and how I get onto the mdt list with another provider. Any advice?

Also who can tell me whether I am a candidate for ESD or EFTR?

Thanks

  • Hi Kezzie and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn of your recent cancer diagnosis. This must be a stressful time and I can understand you wanting to explore all possible options.

Whether you are a suitable candidate for a Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection or Endoscopic Full-Thickness Resection is really a question best answered by your hospital team.  This is because they are familiar with all your medical details and will know so much more about your individual situation.

Many individuals choose to seek a second opinion  from another oncology team to ensure they have explored all possible options. You can ask your general practitioner or current hospital specialist to refer you to another hospital. It may be quicker if your current hospital team were to refer you as they have all the information which they can send at the same time.

While no one can give an absolute assurance that your cancer will not get worse during the wait we do know that most cancers grow slowly, so waiting a few weeks is unlikely to affect the overall situation.

I hope you find this information helpful.
