Hi, I am concerned.

My husband had his right Kidney & ureter removed for urethelial cancer on the 27th March.

At that time his blood tests showed that his ALT & ALP were a little raised. 1 week post operation his ALT shot up to over 600 & his ALP to over 400.

He is having his blood rechecked this Thursday., the hospital will ring him the next day with his results.

Can removing the kidney & ureter trigger release of cancer cells into the liver via the blood stream with in a week. Then cause secondaries?

He is on antibiotics for a post op bacterial wound infection.

I know I am apprehensive & we dont know what stage the cancer is at yet. I'm reading lots & don't understand lot's.

Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Liver enzymes can be affected by many things. They can temporarily rise after medications, and even surgery and anaesthesia. Blood tests are often repeated to check that levels have reduced after a time. This is not likely to be related to liver secondaries. Hopefully you will get to find out more soon from his medical team.
