Re thyroid

Hi I had to see gp last week because of constant sore throat even after 3 lots of antibiotics one I had to stop half way throug course because of side affects

the dr looked at my last letter from ent and he said had I read it I said yes he said they are looking for something sinister I said yes he said he couldn’t understand if there was a chance it could be malignant why they weren’t removing it rather wait and see and scan in august I explained that the risks we’re high due to scar tissue from previous surgery and he said that it would be slit worse if it turned out to be cancer

he said ball was in my court but I don’t really know what to do now I think I shall wait until august

i have endoscopy on Friday so see what that shows and may be take it from there

this is all very confusing different people saying different things

I just wondered what you thought I know you can’t tell me what to do but it’s nice to just ask someone

Thankyou

  • Hello avemaria, and thanks for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

I would wait for the results of the endoscopy and then talk to the team at the hospital. They may be taking biopsies, and the results from these may show what your next steps should be. I am sure that if a cancer were identified when you had the endoscopy, they would want to see you sooner than August.

It is really difficult to say more without being involved in your care.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the helpline nurses, then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
