Benign but dangerous

Hi...wide  awake again at 4.53am!

Been waiting on biopsy results for 6 weeks on 2 tumours in my neck....

Had surgery in 09 for solitary fibrous tumours growing close to my spine..

Anyway turns out these 2 are the same type benign...... BUT after a chat with my consultant-my options at the minute are short interval mri's to check on any increase in growth....at the minute 5cm and 6cm...

Operation could be an option but also quite high risk of morbity as one of the tumours is in a delicate place at the base of my skull,so we're  talking arteries etc....

I'm not in pain, but discomfort and hate the fact these things are in me....

Just feel after my initial mri in December that these months are flying by without much happening........

I know it's not cancer and feel guilty in a way,but it's driving me mad.... xx

Any thoughts would be great...

  • Hi there valley1 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation and can appreciate how this is getting you down.

Unfortunately it is difficult for anyone here to comment about this without being involved in your care.

Do speak about your concerns with your hospital team when you see them and hopefully they can put your mind at ease.

From what you have said it seems these are benign, which is reassuring. However as you say their location isn't ideal and the consultant is being cautious in not wanting to operate too quickly due tot he risks involved.

It isn't unusual for some benign (and some slow growing cancers) conditions to be monitored closely rather than rushing in with treatment as the risks may outweigh the benefits. Every situation is different which is why it is only the team involved who can say what is best for you.

I hope you get some more information soon and peace of mind about this.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
