Soursop and Apricot Seeds

Hi.  My husband fighting Stage 4 prostate cancer metastased into spine area.  Apalutamide and Enzalutamide failed due to adverse side effects.  Chemotherapy pulled after 5 sessions despite good tolerance as cancer continuing to spread.  Now on Radium 223 and tolerating well after 2 sessions.  He also takes tablets for heart, cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid and blood pressure as well as pain killers.  He is still fit and before very overweight has lost nearly 3 stone. He was keen to try and support any healing also bought soursop and apricot seeds however we have now been warned these could have adverse affect.  How can I find out?  I’ve tried research on internet but confused.  Does anyone have experience of this please.  Thank you

  • Hi MonicaBing,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear what you and your husband are going through. Why not have a chat with your husband's consultant? I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and found my consultant very helpful in telling me what I could and could not take. Some alternative therapy can affect how effective conventional cancer medicines are. If s/he cannot help, then ask to be referred to someone who can tell you more.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Unfortunately, as a charity, we are not able to provide in depth information on the safety of various alternative therapies or food supplements.

We do advise that patients tell their doctor if they plan to take any herbal or other supplements. A pharmacist may be able to advise you about possible interactions with current medications.

You can look up various individual alternative therapies and what we know about them on our website

Soursop and apricot seeds adverts seem to be quite prevalent again at the moment on the internet. There is no current scientific evidence to support their use or efficacy.

I assume that you are referring to laetrile based on apricot seeds. We have had enquiries about this over the years, so have a website section

on laetrile which may be of interest and may help.

I hope that this reply helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
