Late onset breast pain

How many people get painful breasts 5 years after a 19mm wide excision, sentinel lymph node biopsy and radiotherapy?

Was I just lucky to only have isolated issues until now when the pain is pretty widespread, getting worse and starting to affect my quality of life.

I gather I have a lipoma and calcium deposits but have been told these are unlikely to be related to the pain.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Sometimes the late effects of radiotherapy and surgery can result in scar tissue formation. This can mean tighter more fibrous tissue, which can cause breast pain.

Do make contact with your original hospital breast specialist, or ask your GP to make contact for you. They should be able to assess you and advise further.

In the meantime, may be ask your GP to refer you for a physiotherapy assessment. Some stretching exercises might help. There are also different painkillers, such as those used for nerve pain that could be useful to try.

I hope that you able to get some help with this moving forward.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
