Prostrate worry

My dad is awaiting the results of a biopsy on his prostrate

there were two dark areas that n the mri scan

apart from weeing a lot at night he has no other symptoms

he originally went to the GP about occasional numbness in his feet

however I’m very worried that it will be cancer and more worried that it may have spread to his legs

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are feeling worried about your dad, and I can appreciate waiting for biopsy results is very stressful, and our minds often imagine the worst possible scenario.

MRI scans can show dark areas for various reasons, not just cancer. Sometimes it's benign changes in the prostate, inflammation or other conditions.

I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. Also try and focus on what you can control right now by eating a good diet, getting enough rest, and doing some gentle activities that you enjoy,

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi celene

thank you so much for the reply, it’s a testing time

    a roller coaster of emotions

especially as it wasn’t even the reason my dad went to his GP

hes 77 and otherwise fit and healthy, but he himself has the mindset that it will be cancer.
    his psa was 10.4

    but he has no pain

    no blood etc

just hoping it’s not cancer, and if so that it hasn’t spread

    thanks again
