Loss of appetite

Hi, my mum has not had any appetite since the end of January.  We thought it was due to her having a stoma in Nov but then she had another perforation and had to have another operation on her bowel in Jan.  She has now got a feeding tube and is getting 750cal through it a day as she feels sick with any more.  The biopsy on her small bowel has just shown up to have lymphoma.  I'm wondering if the lymphoma could have been causing this loss of appetite all along?

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I am sorry to hear of this current situation and can appreciate this is difficult for you all. Loss of appetite can be due to various reasons. Recovering from surgery, and being fed via a tube can influence someone's appetite. It is possible that the lymphoma may be affecting the current loss of appetite, but it is difficult to be very sure as to the extent that this may be affecting things at the moment. It can often be a combination of different things together, rather than a single cause.

I hope that you get to find out more soon from the doctors,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
