My dad is 62 and has CLL

I’m only messaging as where I’m from we don’t get much support over here.

my dad is 62 and has CLL. He’s just had his first round of immunotherapy. I was told this was the last resort for cancer patients? I was wondering if that’s true and also 3 days after his first round of immunotherapy he’s just caught covid, is something going to happen to him? :’( any advice would be amazing.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your dad and appreciate this must be a difficult time for you both.

Immunotherapy and other targeted drugs are used these days to treat many types of cancer. With Chronic Lymphocytic Lymphoma (CLL) treatment is often given when the patient starts to experience symptoms or the cancer seems to be getting worse. These days it is unusual for someone with CLL to receive chemotherapy and most of the treatment involved targeted and immunotherapy drugs.

There is more information about this on the treatment decisions for chronic lymphocytic lymphoma web pages.

It must be a worry your dad having caught covid but I am sure the doctors involved in his care will be wanting to monitor him and do all they can to make sure he is okay at this time. You haven't said if he is at home or in hospital at the moment but if he is home then he needs to let his specialist team know if he develops any symptoms so they can best manage these.

I hope this helps but do get back in touch if you need to.

Wishing you and your dad all the best

    Take care

    Naomi
