Worried re symptoms

Hi,

Within the last 12 months I've had 2 abnormal smears, hpv and low grade dyskaryosis. I had a biopsy and have been issued with a further appointment for a smear in July.

I have developed rough feeling bumps on my cervix, which seemingly aren't visible on examination but can be felt. I've recently seen a gynecologist (as I previously had a cervical wart) and they advised my cervix looked healthy. I've since visited my GP having discovered the bumps, they also advised my cervix looks fine, but they were concerned re the bumps they felt  and said they did not know what they are.

I'm experiencing pain in my lower abdomen on the left side and into my groin and vaginal area. It's worse when I'm in a seated position and feels in the main like a persistent ache and pressured.

Within the last few months my periods have become irregular and I'm expediting bleeding for around 10 days (5 is normal for me), although the last few days of the bleeding is mostly spotting/ bloody discharge.

I've experienced intermittent abdominal swelling for around my months, I've previously mentioned to gynecology and GP who didn't seem concerned. The swelling has become more frequent and my legs are also swelling when I'm seated and not fully shrinking to their usual size.

I suffered from persistent bv for around 8 months, but have been clear of this for about a year.

My GP has referred me for a pelvic ultrasound. I've not yet received appointment. I am worried about the possible cause of all these symptoms

Any advice would be muxh appreciated.

  • Hello Fleurr and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is difficult for the nurses to give an opinion without being involved in your care. If your appointment for your ultrasound does not appear in the next few days I would chase it up with your GP surgery. The ultrasound will hopefully identify the area that needs examining and possibly more tests. Unfortunately until you have had the ultrasound and perhaps further investigations no one is going to know any more.

It may help to elevate your legs when you are sitting down to help reduce the swelling. The NHS has produced some information on swollen legs that you might find helpful to look at.

If your symptoms do continue to get worse then do get in touch with your GP or phone NHS 111 for advice.

I do hope that you know more soon.

    All the best,

    Catherine
