  • Hi Terry.. just saw your post.. no words except I hope you have support and care for you and your daughter..

  • Hi Terry, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to read about your daughter's situation. This must be a difficult time for you and your family and I can appreciate there is a lot of uncertainty, which can be hard to live with.

Not being involved in your daughter's care, unfortunately, we cannot say what her outcome may be as this will depend on several things; the size of the cancer and how far it has spread (stage), how well she is generally whether or not she has any health conditions, and how well she responds to treatment.

The best person to discuss this with would be her specialist doctor or nurse specialist (CNS) as they know her situation.

Chemotherapy is one of the main treatments. It can be given before surgery to shrink the cancer and after surgery to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

It is individual what side effects a child may have because everyone is different, generally tiredness, or feeling sick is common along with being at risk of infection (due to lowering of white blood cells which help fight infection). The hospital will monitor your daughter closely and will give medication to help manage any side effects.

Hopefully, your daughter has a nurse specialist who will know what chemotherapy she is having and can give you more of an idea of what to expect.

I am sorry that I cannot be more specific, but I hope this reply and the links do help. We are currently developing our information on the website about children's cancers but we do have information on resources and support that are available for children with cancer which I hope will be useful.

Please do come back to us if you have more questions. If you would like to speak with one of our nurses on the helpline, we are available Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Jemma
