Is HRT the cause

Hi there, Ive been diagnosed with stage 1 endometrial cancer. I don't know which type yet.  My question is could HRT be the cause.

  • Hi there Jayne23 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and hope you know more about what needs to happen for you next very soon.

HRT may increase the risk of some types of cancer but it is difficult to ever really pin point what has caused an individuals cancer.

We have information about does HRT increase risk of cancer on the website, so do take a look. As you will see research has shown that combined (progesterone and oestrogen) HRT doesn't increase the risk of endometrial cancer (womb) cancer but rather oestrogen only HRT that can increase this risk. The risk is considered relatively small but is thought to increase with the length of time a women is taking it.

Do speak with your own doctor about any concerns you have when you next see them.

Please get back in touch if you have more questions or if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi

  • I'm in the exact same position as you Jayne. I was only told 3 days ago that they find this cancer.  I hope you are getting treatment quickly. I'm still waiting and worried about the next stages.

  • Hi there. It’s been a while since I sent my first message. I had stage 1 grade 2 endometrial cancer confirmed post op. It was predicted a G1 but because of LVSI it graded to a 2.

Radiotherapy was offered as a belt and braces approach but when I’ve weighed the risks and benefits I’ve decided not to have the radiotherapy. This has took a few weeks to decide and hasn’t been easy at all.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

  • Hi Jayne, thank you for coming back to us and updating us on what has happened to you.

I think to get the most from the forum, it might be good to post this in the category called 'living with cancer'. You are then more likely to hear from other endometrial cancer patients who are going through a similar.

    Take care, Jayne.

    Sarah.
