Stomach pain

I have had a lumpectomy and sentinel node.removal for an 8mm cancer.right breast today. All feels good so far. But I've been having bloating, burping, and pain on my right side for 6 days. Also, some lower back aches. Night sweats are dreadful.  I have spoken to my breast care nurse, but she says it's probably anxiety. I get it, but I'm convincing myself it's bowel cancer. I had a complete hysterectomy in November. All biopsies on this showed clear of cancer. Also stopped hrt. I'm using the loo once a day, so no loose stools, although the 1st day I did. Just once. I don't know what to do. Still hav an appetite.  But tummy.hurts a little following food. How can I get my team to understand.  Nurse did say as I was leaving hospital today that she would speak to the breast surgeon and get back to me. I have an appointment in 6 weeks with him. Results in around 6 weeks too!!

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about you needing to have breast surgery yesterday and hope you are feeling okay in yourself today.

It sounds like you have had so much going on the past few months and your body has been through and is going through quite alot. Be kind to yourself and try and take things one step at a time and try not to over think things too much.

As the nurse has said you may have been experiencing some worry and anxiety in the lead up to your operation. Having an anaesthetic can also cause some bloating and tummy discomfort so perhaps give it a few days and see how it goes.

It sounds like the nurse is going to mention your concerns with the consultant so I am sure if needed they can look into this further. For now try and focus on your recovery and the next few weeks and take it from there.

    Take care

    Naomi
