Abemaciclib side effects

Since starting Abemaciclib 3 months ago the skin on my fingers has started peeling to the extent that I now have fissures on two of my fingers which will not heal and are extremely painful. Given the extent of the problem I am concerned that I will end up with fissures on all of my fingers. I have tried Vaseline, sudacrem, o’keeffe’s working hands, overnight gloves etc, but have found nothing to alleviate the problem.

  • Hi AliRD and thank you for your post.

I’m sorry to learn about the difficulties you are experiencing due to the side effects of your treatment. I understand that this must be a challenging time for you.

Ademaciclib has the potential to lead to skin dryness, which may subsequently result in the formation of small cuts or tears, particularly in areas that are frequently exposed, such as the hands or fingers.

The most important aspect is to keep your hands moisturized and protected. When washing up, cleaning, or gardening, be sure to wear gloves.

Have you spoken with the doctor who prescribed Abemaciclib, maybe they can prescribe a more suitable moisturizer.

Do you have a nurse specialist. They may have seen these side effects before and maybe able to advise. Additionally, a pharmacist may also be able to provide you with guidance on the best moisturizing hand creams you can buy over the counter.

    I hope that this helps.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards
