Why no biopsy results?

I was told biopsy results can take up to 2 weeks. It’s been over 2 weeks and still not been given them. I haven’t got an appointment to be given results either. Why have they not been reported back to me. I’ve chased. I am classed as urgent. Being treated as having cancer until they prove otherwise.

  • Hi, it took nearly 4 weeks to get my biopsy results, even though I was told two weeks. It’s torture waiting. Hang on in there!

  • Hi Kezzie and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about waiting for results, and can appreciate that this a difficult and stressful time for you.

The time it takes to receive biopsy results can vary between different NHS Trusts due to various factors. In most cases, it takes between two to three weeks to receive results, but some people have experienced longer waits. Shortages of consultant pathologists who interpret results can contribute to delays. Additionally, in some cases, a second pathologist may need to examine the sample to confirm the initial findings, causing further delays. Some biopsy specimens may also be sent to larger, specialized pathology laboratories for analysis, resulting in longer wait times depending on the lab's current sample volume.

If you do not hear within the next week or so, then do make contact with the hospital team/department to ask about it.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.
