Endometrium cancer

Hi all,

I started going through menopause age 40. I've had no end of irregular bleeding and severe cramping up to last April. April I had to go to A&E with pelvic pain and heavy bleeding. I was told my scan showed fluid in my womb so needed repeating. I then asked the GP and was told I had heard wrong and never got a follow up. I have had a constant period like pain, like as though I was about to have a period. I was told it's all linked to perimenopause by GP. 5 weeks ago I had episodes of severe pain and bleeding ranging from watery pink discharge to clots and heavy. This last 4 weeks so I went to GP again. She sent me for a scan which showed 7mm endometrium which she said was abnormal and warranted 2 week wait.  I went to the gynaecology appointment and she examined me, told me all looked normal. Due to my bloods last year actually showing I was post menopause any bleeding is abnormal and warranted further investigation. She said I need biopsies as have the symptoms of endometrium cancer. I have my appointment in 10 days.

I just wanted to know if there is anyone who has had similar symptoms.  Very anxious and had to go off sick.

Thanks for reading

  • Sorry forgot to mention I am now 42.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you've been experiencing vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain, and I appreciate waiting for answers can be very stressful.

It sounds like your GP has taken your symptoms seriously and referred you for further tests. As your womb lining was abnormal you have been referred urgently to the hospital.

Although a thickened womb lining can sometimes be linked to cancer, it’s more often linked to an overgrowth of cells (hyperplasia) or polyps (harmless growths ) which can make the womb lining look thick as well. A hysteroscopy is usually the next step because it allows doctors to look directly inside the womb and take samples if needed. This can help decide on the best treatment for you.

You have posted on the ask the nurses section of the forum but I see you are asking for other users experience. Anyone is welcome to reply on here but you may get more response from others who may be or have gone through similar by posting in a different section of the forum as well as here.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
