Jaundice due the Secondary cancer in liver

My husband recently had a nasty infection due to his bowel cancer. He has secondary tumours in his liver. He is jaundiced which appears to fluctuate during the day. Visible in eyes and face. We know the liver function is not good and the next 2 weeks will ascertain the extent. He needs the function to improve to have the chance of any more treatments. If not possible can the jaundice be medically controlled?
is there anything we can do /eat/ drink to help the jaundice?
thank you.

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

I am so sorry to hear about what you are all going through with your husband's cancer.

Unfortunately, the jaundice is caused by what is happening in his liver, and this can not be controlled by eating or drinking different things.

As a lot of treatments are processed in the liver, and its function is important, it is hard for doctors to administer medicines that may make the function worse.

This is a difficult time while you wait to see what decisions the doctors make about your husband's care. I hope you have support.

Take care, and if you want to talk anything through with the nurses the freephone number is 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
