Chemo for recurrence

I was diagnosed with endometrial carcinosarcoma, warned that I was at high risk of recurrence. Had hysterectomy. Had 4 round of carboplatin and packitaxel and 5 weeks of radiotherapy with 2 rounds of cisplatin. The cancer has returned. Am about to see my oncologist. Am I likely to have more chemo ? I know I can't have more radio. What should I ask doctor ?

  • Hello CFB and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. How very frustrating for you.

As you probably know endometrial carcinosarcoma is different from normal sarcomas as they contain sarcoma cells as well as carcinoma cells which the pathologist can see under a microscope. You can see the different types of womb cancer here

We have a page on our website for treatment of womb cancer. They may offer you a different chemotherapy or they may look at using a targeted treatment or immunotherapy if there was one that you may benefit from.

You could ask whether they felt a clinical trial may be possible. In order to enter a trial you would need to be referred from your own doctors to the doctor running the trial.

We have a trials database that lists trials that are available and we have permission to put on our website but we are not involved in recruiting patients. Your oncologist may be aware of other trials that are not on the database so it is always worth asking if this may be an option.

I do hope that your appointment goes well. If you want to ring the nurses before or after your appointment then you are very welcome to do so.

The number to ring is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
