Deb: my husband has stage 4 melanoma cancer which has spread to lymph nodes and lungs

My husband has stage 4 melanoma cancer and it's spread to lymph nodes and lungs  he is due to start treatment soon of a drug going in a drip in his arm  what are his chances

  • Hi Debs53,

I'm sorry to hear about your husband and that he will be undergoing treatment. Every patient reacts to the treatments differently - some have no side effects, some have mild ones & some serious ones so until he's started the treatment you won't know how he's going to be. As for his chances? Well the treatment for Stage 4 melanoma has been in existence for several years now and the most recent statistics are showing great results. This means that more patients are living with the disease rather than dying from it. I will find the information and send it to you by private message, along with other advice that you may find helpful. To be able to send you a message I need to send you a friend request - once you accept the request I can send you the information. I hope tis helps for the moment,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

Ok thanks yer it started from a mole on his head then he had it cut out then come back it is now in his lungs and can spread fast   he has loads of lymph nodes on neck etc

  • Hi there Debs53 and thanks for the post

I am very sorry to hear about your husbands situation and appreciate what an anxious time this must be for you both.

I'm sure you are aware that every patient and their cancer is different and also how any one responds to treatment will vary as well.

It is impossible at this point in time for anyone to say how your husband will get on with his treatment but it is worth asking his team what his chances are.

The introduction of immunotherapy treatment for melanoma has in many cases improved and extended the lives of patients, but their are some patients whose benefit will sadly be much less. As I have said until the treatment has started and is monitored no one can predict what a particular patients response will be.

I'm sorry we can't be of any more help on this occasion but do get back in touch if you have further questions or would like to talk things through. The nurses are here on the helpline on 0808 800 4040, week days 9-5, so do call us if you prefer.

All the best to you both

    Naomi
