Found a lump in my left breast.

2 weeks ago after pain in my shoulder blade and down my arm a little I found what I think is a lump on the top of my left breast. I have saw the gp about this and she’s referred me to the breast clinic. I just can’t stop thinking it’s bad news as I’m unbelievable tired all the time. More so than usual. I do have a busy work life working with children. But I’ve never been this bad with tiredness before. I just can’t help but think it’s because my body is fighting something bad.
Is tiredness something that would occur with breast cancer? I’m also low in my mood but I think this is because I’m so tired lately.

  • Hi R_86 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern.

NHS England has introduced a new target called the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS).  The target is that you should not wait more than 28 days from referral to find out whether you have cancer or not.

Most patients referred under the Faster Diagnosis Standard system do not have cancer but may have another condition requiring hospital diagnosis and treatment.

Fatigue is generally not an indication of breast cancer; rather, it is more commonly a side effect associated with the treatment of breast cancer.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
