Radiology refused to biopsy

Found a lump in my groin in December 2024. It had doubled in size by February 2025 so I went to the GP who referred me to haematology for suspected lymphoma. Haematologist referred me for CT scan and ultrasound guided biopsy.

I was really stressed, chased my results. Found out that radiology had rejected the referral for ultrasound guided biopsy on the basis that my CT scan was clear. The haematologist then discharged me.

I'm a little confused (although relieved that I don't have lymphoma).

My question is this- how can they be sure I don't have lymphoma? Apparently all my lymph nodes were sub 1cm on the CT scan (with contrast). But I still have a palpable (and visible) groin lump. So what now? I'm not sure why they didn't just do the biopsy so they could say for sure what the lump is.

I'm thinking I'll go back to the GP to talk it through seeing as it's impossible to locate anyone at the hospital who can help me. Anyone else had this before and found out what their lump was?

  • Hi Catface and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern.

It does sound reassuring that the CT has ruled out lymphoma but I do understand that you need to find out exactly what this lump is.

The best thing to do is to go back and see your GP for further advice.

Many individuals choose to seek a second opinion to ensure they have explored all possible options.

I really hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay for you.
