Radiotherapy and invasive bladder wall cancer

I have terminal bladder cancer which has spread, there is no more treatment

I occasionally have heanaturia  which  may last between hours or a couple of days, it is painless, I am told that this is due to the tumour, it does not freak me out

I have been offered three sessions of radiotherapy as my consultant says it may avoid blood transfusions in the future. I also need to self catheterise once a day as I  eretain urine approx 200 mls but pass urine normally  the rest of the time, I feel fit and have no symptoms at the moment

it seems likely that this will cause more  problems  than it will solve, any thoughts?

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I think we spoke this afternoon on the helpline and you now have a list of questions to ask the radiologist when you see them.

As we discussed everyone will be different in the side effects they experience, although hopefully there are other patients on here who can share their stories with you.

It is important that you find out all the benefits to having the radiotherapy versus the risk of side effects that may impact on your quality of life and self catheterisation. Hopefully the doctor will be able to quantify this for you in order for you to make the right decision for you.

As I said on the phone you know where we are if you need to talk again.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
