I'm sorry if this has been asked but I had searched and can't find an answer.
I went to my GP because I was feeling so tired I actually fell asleep at a traffic light. It terrified me so I booked an appointment and was seen the same week. A blood test was arranged and it turned out I am super anemic. A number of 4.5 was mentioned which I'm gathering is low. I was given a FIT test to hand back in and the 1st one got lost after handing it in so the 2nd one took another few weeks. It came back "super positive" were my GPs words. 800+ which I think is high.
I should mention my Dad died from colon cancer 13 days after being diagnosed when he was my exact age (48). I was whisked off for a colonoscopy 4 days after the FIT results came in. It was clean as a whistle. They were genuinely surprised as the consultant said she was expecting to be giving me bad news after seeing my history and symptoms. She said I had a "textbook" colonoscopy, not a single polyp no biopsies needed etc.
Anyway, on to the Upper GI endoscopy which I had last Friday - this is now all within 10 days of the FIT result coming back so its all happening crazy quick. They found a 2.5cm peptic ulcer and "some other things which I'm not happy with" which were her exact words. They took 10 biopsies. I have the CT scan tomorrow and an appointment with the consultant for Monday.
Can I ask is the speed with which I'm being seen a red flag, and was the number of biopsies unusual? She did say she took a couple more than she would have ordinarily but because I was tolerating the gastroscope very well she took the 10 while she could. I'm surprisingly not worried about my ulcer, just glad it explains the pain I'd been having for a while.
