Referral to haematology but I've heard nothing yet. Should I have heard something by now?

I have recently been told by my Maxillofacial  surgeon that I likely have Lymphoma (This is post USS, MRI and needle biopsy).  He has informed me he will be referring me to a haematology team and will need a further biopsy and PETS scan.  I have heard nothing further in the last week, should I have heard by now?  It don't wish to be unrealistic, but I have had to chase every result and this has now been going on for 3 months.

Many thanks

Andy

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation this must be very difficult especially as it has been going on for some time.

It might be worth speaking with the surgeon's secretary to check that an urgent referral has been sent to the haematologist. Hopefully, you should hear something in the next week or so. If you are concerned that you have been waiting too long, you may find it helpful to contact your local Patient and Advice Liaison Service (PALS) for advice.

I hope you hear from the hospital soon. If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

    Jemma
