Mum

Hello when I was fifteen my mother started telling me and my siblings the she had cancer and the doctors told her she only has a couple of weeks to live. She continues to tell us that every month and I’m now 40 and she still says she’s being told by the doctor she has weeks. I have two questions really it it possible to live 25 years after you have been told you only have weeks and secondly if it is should the doctor tell her that she only had weeks left every month for twenty five years. I’m so confused I know it’s horrible to ask but my mother lies all the time but she is really thin and bought herself a wheelchair to use. But we are never allowed to talk to her doctors I’ve no idea what to believe

  • Hello S and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn about your situation this must be very difficult.

Not being involved in your mum's care, we really cannot say what her situation is.

Generally, it would be unusual for someone who is terminally unwell and told they had a few weeks to live, to survive so many years later. I appreciate this is so difficult but unless you have your mum's permission to speak with her doctors, there is no other way to find out.

I am sorry we cannot be more helpful on this occasion but I hope you can get some information soon.

    Take care,

    Jemma
