What happens now for Mum?

My Mum in her 89th year can not have surgery because of other health problems.

she has womb cancer and is bleeding a lot. Her pain is managed. She wants to know how this condition will progress.

I have explained that everyone is different. She gets very tired and has refused a blood transfusion.

lts a difficult subject to talk about but she has had enough.

  • Hello Eric-mom and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your mum's situation this must be very difficult.

It is always difficult to predict how someone's condition will progress. As you say everyone's situation is individual, for some people there can be a gradual deterioration, for other people, they may have a sudden event that can cause a person to deteriorate more quickly.

I wondered what support your mum has at home for example if she had community palliative care nurses involved in her care. They are nurses that specialise in managing symptoms, they also provide emotional support. They would also be able to give you more of an idea of how things may progress.

You may find this is a difficult read, but we do have information on our website about dying with cancer which may be helpful. This explains what can happen in the last few months/ weeks and what support is available.

If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline, you would be welcome to give us a call. We are available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040.

I hope this helps a little,

    take care,

    Jemma

  • Thankyou for confirming what we thought.

she is now in conversation with her doctor which I think is the best and most honest way forward.Eric-mom
