Cervical changes

I’ve had a bloated feeling , lower abdominal pain , pain after sex and a random bleed ,lower back pain on left side too .  I went to the web  and it said to check your cervix , should be firm and smooth …. Mine feels like the pictures online for cervical cancer , stared with it being “bumpy” on the left side at the top , has now gone 3/4 of the way around . I know I could go to gp but I’m scared I’ll get told to come back in a few weeks . It’s been like this for 3 months . I can’t get the courage to call them as the reception are always rude and never get an appointment thus I never go to the gp

  • Hello Gina17 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. It really is a good idea to go and see your GP. It is very easy to assume that worrying symptoms might be caused by cancer but there are other reasons why you may be having these symptoms. It is not something you can diagnose yourself or indeed the nurses or Cancerchat.

It is really only your GP who can try and work out what may be causing these symptoms with perhaps the help of some tests.

Remember that is what your GP is there for.

You may find it helpful to read the information about getting the most out of your GP appointment written by the Patient Association.

I can understand that a busy receptionist can sometimes come across as off hand but do try and let them know that you have got concerns about your health and I am sure they will do their best to help organise an appointment.

If you would like to chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thanks - not asking for this chat or nurse to diagnose I’m really worried and was just actually saying my concerns outloud/ to a chat /someone for the first time which is a massive step for me .
    thank you for the links

I still haven’t managed to muster up the courage to pick up the phone and speak about my concerns yet but I hope I can soon

  • Please do Gina. Get past the hurdle of the receptionist. Explain you are really worried about your gynae health. No one takes enjoyment of having to go to these appointments but it’s needed. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. All women have these parts.

im always here if you need any advice. I’m going through my own waiting for appointments but, I’ve got the ball rolling because my body was telling me something was wrong. Xx

  • Thank you for the reply , sorry you are going through something atm too. It’s not the embarrassing aspect of it , I think I just feel that because I’ve been told years ago at an appointment that my pain was “in my head” that I think I won’t be listens to or believed , by pain wasn’t in my head and lead onto two major surgeries in my spine . I agree our bodies tell us when we need to do something and I rarely go to the doctors about “little” things I just get on , I know I need to get my finger out and do it regardless if they “believe” me or not

  • I’ve seen two gps since this came about. 1st time I was told I had an ectropion (which I’ve since learnt can quite easily be mistaken for something more sinister by the naked eye) so I don’t know if that was just trying to make me feel better while I wait or brush it off. The second time she suggested I go for a scan also after examining me. I kinda felt like I was just being seen to be Seen. Whilst they were waiting for this awfully long smear results ( 9 weeks )

one thing I’ve learnt since trawling these and other forums is to be your own advocate ️
