Diagnosis Lung Cancer

I have a parent who has lost a lot of weight in the last 3 weeks, on Tuesday he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, since then he has deteriorated, he is not eating, staying in his bed and is unable to remain seated when he does get up.

He has been given 5mg of morphine but appears to be seeing things and hullacintaing. My mother is trying to support him the best she can but is finding it a challenge.

Should I contact NHS for hospitalisation?

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your father and appreciate this must be a concerning time for you.

We can't say what the matter may be or whether it is the cancer or the morphine that is causing him to be unwell. We would suggest letting the GP know about the changes in his health and hallucination so he can be properly assessed. If you can't get hold of the GP then call NHS111 who can advise you further.

A doctor really needs to assess him face to face to decide if your father needs to be admitted into hospital at this time.

I hope your Father improves soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
