Any advice please - worried my husband's symptoms could be a sign of late stage prostate cancer but PSA was normal

My husband already has various complex and ongoing (over 16yrs) health conditions. Back three years ago he underwent surgery to remove cancer from his bladder. But recently after symptoms: loss of appetite/pain during intercourse/frequent urination/pain in lower back and abdomen we saught gp advice where he had an examination of prostate which was found to be as hard as stone. Then sent for a ultra sound found nothing, no enlarging or problems anywhere else, my question and worry is that his signs/symptoms could indicate later stage prostate cancer but because psa was normal and ultra sound showed nothing he is waiting to see urologist but isn’t urgent? I’m so worried because of his other ailments that it’s being missed/not seen as urgent. Am I just being worried for nothing and if they aren’t worried I shouldn’t be, please advise if anyone has had similar or can put my mind at ease?

kindest regards

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you have these concerns about your husband, but I'm pleased to hear his PSA and ultrasound were normal.

It's good to remember that other things can go on in the body that aren't related to cancer and that different things can cause different symptoms. If the GP felt concerned about cancer, they would have marked his referral as urgent, but if you feel any of his symptoms change or get worse, do return to the GP.

When he sees a doctor, ask your husband to go through all his symptoms so that further investigation can happen if needed.

Take care and I hope you get the information you need soon.

    Sarah.
