New lump under ear after radioactive iodine therapy!

Hi everyone, new to this forum.

A little about me, I'm 33 and was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer last year and had a full thyroidectomy last summer.

2 weeks ago I had my radioactive iodine therapy and was feeling okay with not many side effects until today. I noticed I have a lump on my neck under my right ear. Everywhere I have reason indicates towards a swollen lymph node which is common after the treatment but I just wanted to come here for answers or see if anyone has experienced something similar.

Thankk you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You can experience some swelling in the surrounding lymph nodes after this treatment, and this can last several weeks or longer.

Take simple painkillers such as paracetamol for soreness. Do let your hospital treatment team know about the lump, so they are aware and can advise you further.

I hope that this reply helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
