lymph nodes in outer sides of breasts.

Hello.

I will make this short and sweet. I am due to attend a breast clinic appointment to investigate a small lump in my right breast so naturally I've been hyper focused on my boobs. Until I found the small lump I thought I knew my breasts and what was my normal. But I've suddenly noticed things I hadn't before, probably from an increased obsession of feeling them.

So my question.

I have noticed small pea like bumps on the outside of my breasts, quite near the armpits, just under the skin. It doesn't require a lot of pressure to feel them. I know this is where lymph nodes are but I'm not entirely sure if I SHOULD be able to actually feel them. I am a slim build (UK size 8). With the finding of the lump I'm just looking for some reassurance that this can be normal for some women.

Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Breasts change throughout a woman's life due to hormonal changes. We can't diagnose what you are feeling on your breast but hopefully you will get the reassurance from the breast clinic. They will examine both breasts and you will have a chance to hopefully have your concerns addressed.

There are also many benign (not cancer) breast conditions that women can get so try not to over think it for now.

Breast Cancer Now have some useful information about what to expect at a Breast clinic Appointment

I do hope that all goes and if you would like to ring and chat to one of the nurses on the helpline you are welcome to give us a call. The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
