Thrush Discharge for over a year and 6 months after having LLETZ procedure

My pap smear came back postive twice and on the second time i got a biopsy done which then led to getting lletz treatment in October of 2023. From December 2023 till now and currently i have had thrush discharge, no itching and its been 18 months. I was put on a 6 month flucanazole treatment from may 2024 and that did not help with the candida. I get tests done every month and all the doctors just say its thrush. But it doesnt go. They have now prescribed me another treatment but warned me that it could potentially affect my liver, so i am hesitant to take the treatment. Pessaries dont work, oral treatment doesnt work, and it has become really embarrassing as it has an odour too, but i have not tested positive for BV at any time. I am out of options as I wait for gynaecology appointment. My confidence has really gone down the drain and my relationship life has completely been horrible because i dont feel great and havent felt great in the past 18 months. I am only 27 years old and nobody takes me seriously about this. Does anyone know what i can do.

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation and that this has affected your confidence, this must be difficult.

There is some information on the Patient website about vaginal thrush which I hope is useful.

I am sorry we cannot recommend treatment, or provide a medical opinion. It sounds like it might be a while before you see the gynaecologist. I can appreciate you are concerned about the side effects of the treatment you have been recommended, the doctors will always weigh the benefits of treatment against side effects. I wondered if it is worth speaking with your doctor again or if there is a practice nurse who you could talk to about your concerns and the impact this is having on you.

I am sorry we cannot be more helpful but I hope you do not have to wait too long before your appointment with the gynaecologist.

    Take care, Jemma
