Could I have neuro fibromatosis

I was watching a show recently when a patient had 2 tumours in a similar place to mine,neck...

He had a genetic condition Neurofibromatosis, which caused tumours to grow on nerves...   I've googled (as you do) to see what symptoms are,and one which stood out to me was Cafe au lait marks on skin which I have a few....

I'm currently 6 weeks in waiting for biopsy results on 2 tumours - I had one removed 14 years ago and it was benign but had some active cells going on....

My consultant said it was very rare for solitary fibrous tumours (which is what they said it was) to come back in 2 separate areas..... it might be worth me asking whenever I get to see him again about my skin marks.....

Just wonder if you have any thoughts

Heard from consultants secretary this morning that my results are still not back

Xx

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing tests and are awaiting some results, this of course must be an anxious time for you.

Whilst we can't say what the tumours you have are being caused by, it is important to remember every patient is different and needs to be looked at individually.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic condition and is usually picked up in childhood. Some people have a mild version of the condition without it causing many problems. Whereas others can be affected more severely causing various health problems. It is worth mentioning to your doctor when you see them and see what they have to say. They may ask you questions about other family members in case a link could be found to warrant genetic testing.

I hope this helps and you know more about your situation soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
