Change in bowel habits.

For quite a long time now I have been having much looser bowel habits. It is rare for me to have the more normal sausage shape. Occasionally I have urgent diarrhea and once ir twice it has been uncontrollable.  Usually darkish brown no blood passed. I have put this down to a change on diet. Eating many more veggies and berries, salads, etc. Often i take ages to pass this loose poo. Initial lump mass then bits and pueces for 5 -10 minutes But over the last month I detect that before a poo, I have a bulge in my right groin. This disappears after a poo!  I am really confused.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Your change in bowel habit may well be because you have changed your diet and you have increased your fibre intake. We are unable to diagnose you but if you do have concerns then do go and discuss this with your GP. You could talk to your GP about the bulge in your groin that may be a small hernia but of course I can't be sure. If you are eating well and not losing any weight and don't have any other symptoms the chances are the change in bowel may be because of your high fibre diet.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best,

    Catherine
