Reversal of loop ileostomy with with stoma hernia repair

Just a quick question if you have a rough idea of how long a straightforward ileostomy reversal with a hernia caused by the stoma being simultaneously repaired by laparoscopic surgery normally takes.  I missed what my Consultant said and upon looking on google under NHS hospital sites they all say between one and two hours.  Would this be broadly correct?

Thank you

  • Hello,

NHS websites with specific patient information advice tends to be broadly correct when describing a surgery procedure. So it is likely to be fairly accurate.

Laparoscopic surgery tends to be quicker. You can ask the hospital team on the day of the surgery itself. Or if you have the contact details of a colorectal clinical nurse specialist (CNS), they may be able to help.

I hope that it goes well,

    Best wishes,
