TURBT next steps

Hello

im 27 years old, female.

For nearly a year I had blood in my urine, finally got referred to urology recently and the hospital have done a cystoscopy where they found and removed a malignant neoplasm in lateral wall of my bladder.

I was discharged from hospital 5 days ago now and I haven’t heard anything - have I got cancer? Is this a diagnosis as the tumour was found? Should I be on any treatment?

I’m very scared and confused and not sure what happens next.

thanks x

  • Hello cr1997 and thanks for your post,

I can understand how unsettling this must be for you waiting for the doctors to get back to you.

Normally all cases go through an MDT where a team of doctors will discuss your case and if you have had any biopsies these will be reviewed. The MDT meeting usually happens once a week. As it is only 5 days since you had the cystoscopy it may take a bit longer. It does take time for the pathologist to look at tissue under a microscope as there are so many different tests that are now done.

You could give the urology secretaries a ring to see if you can find out more information about when your case will be discussed.

I do hope that you know more soon. If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call. The number to ring is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
