Fitt test

I'm on a two week pathway as I had a Fitt test result of 17 I'm so worried about this,  I have to go in for a endoscopy and colonoscopy on the same day , I'm waiting for a appointment! I have suffered with bad indigestion since last year and was prescribed Omperazole ( not sure on spelling ) 20mg a day I'm beside myself with worry !

  • Hi Muzzy and thank you for your post.

NHS England has introduced a new target called the Faster Diagnosis Standard(FDS). The target is that you should not wait more than 28 days from referral to find out whether you have cancer or not.

Try not to read too much into how high the reading is, this does not mean it is cancer nor does it necessarily mean that you are at a higher risk of it being cancer. Finding blood means that further tests are needed such as a colonoscopy so the doctor can take a closer look at the bowel.

Most patients referred under the Urgent Suspected Cancer Referral system do not have cancer but may have another condition requiring hospital diagnosis and treatment; such as polyps.

We know that it can be very stressful waiting for appointments and results.

Anxiety UK and Every Mind Matters have useful tips and advice on how to deal with stress and anxiety in these situations.

I hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards

    Tina
