Lump found - what now?

Hello,

I have a 37-year old friend who has recently had a colonoscopy. The doctors found a 20mm lump and said it needs to be removed urgently as it is highly likely to be cancerous.

He’s in a far away country and it’ll cost him thousands to have the removal done there.

He’s unsure whether to come back to England to have it removed through the NHS, or if he’ll need to have the surgery there.

I understand this is a very difficult topic, but is anyone able to help with advice?

Thank you.

Craig

  • Hello Craig12345 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your friend. It is difficult to be able to advise you without having more information about whether your friend is normally a UK resident and whether they have a GP in this country.

You may find it helpful to look at the Government websites on treatment in the UK.

We have some information about who can have NHS treatment. It may be helpful to forward this to your friend.

Unfortunately if your friend is not eligible for NHS treatment they will have to pay for it.

I wish your friend all the best,

    Catherine

  • Hello Catherine,

That’s very helpful, thank you so much.

He English, but he’s been living and working in China for 7 years.

I don’tt think he has a GP here anymore.

    Best,

    Craig
