Ascending colon tumour

My partner has today had a call today to tel him he definitely has cancer. Now we have to wait to find out if it has spread.
He also has Systemic sclerosis, which is making things worse.
My question is - IF it hasn’t metastasised is it possible to have op to remove all or part of bowel

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry your partner and you are going this. This must have been a very difficult call to receive and the waiting for more answers must feel overwhelming.

If the cancer hasn't spread then surgery is often an option. The operation could involve removing just the affected part of the bowel ( resection) or, in some cases, a larger section. It depends on where the cancer is, how advanced it is, and your partner's overall health.

Systemic sclerosis can make things more complicated, but your partner's doctors will weigh up the risks and benefits before deciding on the treatment plan.

It's very common to overthink things when waiting for things to happen. I know it's easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you both know more.

I hope this is of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
