Cancer in the lymph nodes in the stomach

Why would they doctor say there was no sign of it on the ct scan but my nhs notes say I have malignant retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy really worried

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation.

It is difficult for us to answer your question as we are not doctors and we are not involved in your clinical care. Your healthcare team are better placed to advise you on this as they are familiar with all your medical details.

Malignant retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy generally means that that the lymph nodes in the retroperitoneal area ( the space at the back of the abdomen ), near the stomach are enlarged and may be cancerous. However, if your doctor has told you that there was no sign of cancer on your CT scan, it could mean that the CT scan can detect enlarged lymph nodes but they can't always confirm if they are cancerous and further tests such as a biopsy or PET scan may be needed to be sure.

The best thing to do is to ask your doctor directly about the difference between what you've been told and what is in your medical notes.

I hope this is of some use and that you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
