PMP

I had my first appt at hospital today and they said the mucin in my stomach has reduced since my op for ruptured appendix in oct and so they watch and wait and see in august if scan shows it’s improved or got worse and also review tumour markers… they also said sometimes the ‘jelly’ can all go on its own? How does this work pls

  • Hello there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have a pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and appreciate you having some questions.

It is good to hear you have been seen at one of the specialist centres dealing with this rare type of cancer. As you can read on the about cancer pages of the website about PMP about treatment, there are instances where patients are put on a watch and wait (also known as active surveillance) pathway to have the condition monitored over a period of time.

It is reassuring to hear that the mucin production seems to have decreased since the operation and this may have been down to the surgery itself and the removal of the appendix where the PMP originated from. Now that that has been removed and if there is little else present in the abdominal cavity to increase production of the mucin, then these levels may continue to drop.

I hope this makes sense but if you remain concerned or have more questions specific to your situation they are probably best answered by the team at Basingstoke, as the experts in this field.

I wish you all the best

    Naomi
