2 week wait

Hello, I had a pelvic mri in December for back pain. A 2 cm lesion was found in my cervical uterus. An ultrasound scan was recommended. I had this last week. I was told I need a hysteroscopy as she thought it might be polyp but there was a lot of bloody tissue. I was given no timescales. I wanted to ask about the urgent 2 week pathway. I am 50 and have had erratic bleeding for 18 months. Blood can be black and dark brown or a watery pink discharge. I can also flood and never know day to day how it will be.
No one seems in any hurry which could be a good sign but I’ve also been let down badly with NHS previously who lost a referral so want to know whether I should argue for this be looked at urgently.

thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your enquiry,

I am sorry to learn of the symptoms you are experiencing this must be difficult.

I was unsure of your situation, whether you are under the gynaecology team, or whether all your tests have been arranged by your GP.

Generally, you would expect if there was a concern of cancer, that any further tests needed, would be done urgently. If you are concerned do have a word with your doctor as they know your situation, they may be able to explain why an urgent referral is not needed and give you more reassurance.

It is important to know polyps in the uterus /cervix are common and mostly noncancerous but can cause symptoms such as bleeding.

I hope this helps in some way. If you would like to talk things through with our nurses on the helpline, do give us a ring. Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Jemma
